In 2001, with the partnership of Julia Child and back from Napa Valley icons Robert and Margrit Mondavi, Copia, a museum dedicated to food, wine, and related arts, opened its doors in Downtown Napa. Riggs Distributing, Inc., was thrilled to learn that seven Sub-Zero wine preservation units to house its collection of fine wine and were dramatically installed in the east wall of the restaurant, called Julia’s Kitchen, in full view of the dining guests.

That same space has been transformed by the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), in a new restaurant, and the Sub-Zero Wine Units, 15 years later, are once again proudly preserving a collection of great wine and running strong.

From the more traditional style of the original Julia’s Kitchen to the more causal and contemporary design of the new Restaurant at CIA Copia, the Sub-Zero units blend into and dramatically accentuate the decor of the space and their performance has sustained the test of time. CIA Marketing Director Anne Girvin mentioned that this perfect fit also works with the goals of the CIA at Copia including the renovations of the restaurant. “We’ve renovated the space to give it a more modern feel by using earth tones and modern design. We extended the store front by eight feet and added and entrance to the restaurant from the gardens.”

The wine units will also store a rotating selection of seven wineries that are part of the other offerings planned at Copia. “The CIA at Copia is all about providing exceptional food and wine experiences, and all of our programs intersect. For example, we will be opening a tasting showcase this spring in our atrium, which will feature up to seven wineries at a time. As part of the program, these wineries will be featured on our wines by the glass program at the restaurant.”
